How to check Cursor token usage and limits
Open your editor settings, or the usage dashboard at cursor.com/dashboard/usage. That is where Cursor shows how much included usage you have used, and it is the only place with the real numbers. A local tool cannot show Cursor's token counts, because Cursor does not keep them on your machine.
We make SkillKeeper. What follows about Cursor comes from the Cursor pricing docs, checked on 2026-10-14.
How Cursor usage works
On the Pro, Pro Plus and Ultra plans, included usage comes in two pools, and both reset with your monthly billing cycle:
- Cursor models, with more included usage.
- Other models, the third-party ones, charged at each model's API price.
Usage is priced per million tokens across input, cache write, cache read and output, at each model's rate. Because models cost different amounts, the model you pick changes how fast included usage runs out. Both pools show in editor settings and on the dashboard.
When you reach the limit you can add on-demand usage at the same API rates, billed monthly, or move to a higher plan. The docs say requests are not slowed or downgraded at that point.
Ways to check
| You want | Use |
|---|---|
| Included usage and spend this month | Editor settings, or cursor.com/dashboard/usage |
| How much of each pool is used | Editor settings, which show both pools |
| Which skill the agent actually reads | A tool that reads Cursor's local agent transcripts |
What SkillKeeper shows for Cursor
SkillKeeper reads the agent transcripts under ~/.cursor/projects/ and counts a skill when the agent reads its SKILL.md. So for Cursor it shows skill counts: which skills fire, how often, and which never do.
It does not show tokens for Cursor. There are no token numbers in those local files, so the app has no Agents or Tools breakdown for it either, and it does not try to estimate them. The last 5 hours and 24 hours are free, week and month need the $19 one-time license, and the app works with one tool at a time, chosen in the AI Tools and Folders setup. See the privacy page for what is read.
If you want token counts by skill, agent and MCP server, that is what SkillKeeper does for Claude Code: Claude Code usage monitor for Mac.
