How to check Gemini CLI token usage and quota
Run /stats model in Gemini CLI to see token counts and quota information for the current session. A usage summary also prints when you exit. To see which skill or session used the tokens over time, SkillKeeper reads the chat logs Gemini CLI keeps on your Mac.
We make SkillKeeper. What follows about Gemini CLI comes from the Gemini CLI docs, checked on 2026-10-14.
The stats commands
/stats shows statistics for the current session and has three views:
/stats session(the default): duration, tool calls and performance./stats model: token counts and quota information per model./stats tools: usage per tool.
These describe the session you are in, not your history across sessions.
Daily request limits
The quota page lists daily request limits per user, by how you sign in:
| Sign-in | Daily limit |
|---|---|
| Google account, Gemini Code Assist (Individual) | 1,000 |
| Google account, Google AI Pro | 1,500 |
| Google account, Google AI Ultra | 2,000 |
| Gemini API key, free | 250, Flash model only |
| Code Assist Standard (Workspace) | 1,500 |
| Code Assist Enterprise (Workspace) | 2,000 |
Requests are also limited per minute, with no number given on the page. The page does not say when the daily quota resets, so check /stats model rather than assuming a time. It also notes that Gemini CLI was replaced by Antigravity CLI on June 18, 2026 for the unpaid tier and Google One users, so what applies to you depends on your account.
What SkillKeeper shows for Gemini CLI
Gemini CLI keeps chat logs under ~/.gemini/tmp/. SkillKeeper reads them on your Mac and shows:
- Tokens by skill. A skill counts when the model reads its
SKILL.mdor activates it. Failed or cancelled calls are not counted. - Tokens by session. A session is one chat log, named after the project folder.
- Time windows and a chart. The last 5 hours, 24 hours, week and month. The last 5 hours and 24 hours are free; week and month need the $19 one-time license.
For Gemini CLI there is no breakdown by agent or MCP server, and the limit gauge in the header is for Claude Code only. The app works with one tool at a time, chosen in the AI Tools and Folders setup. Nothing leaves your Mac except anonymous usage counts; see the privacy page.
